Lev (The Hebrew Heart)
EN — Transliteration: Lēb
Lev (לֵב) or Levav designates the heart in Hebrew anthropology. Unlike the modern Western concept, the lev is not the seat of emotions (which were located in kidneys/bowels) but the center of intellect, choices, will, and conscience.
In Hebrew thought, the heart is the decision-making and intellectual center of the self. It is the organ of choice and moral evaluation.
🔬 Intelligence of the Heart
For the Hebrews, one thinks and meditates with the heart. The lev is the Hebrew counterpart of the Greek noos. It is where a person dialogues with themselves and makes deep choices. When Solomon asks for an 'understanding heart' to rule, he asks for a lev capable of discerning justice.
Perspective Conceptuelle
Symbolic Visualization: A stylized glowing heart made of gold and fire, spreading deep root structures downwards like a tree.
