Katallage (Reconciling Alignment)
EN — Transliteration: Katallagē
Denotes reconciliation, alignment, or exchange. In antiquity, it was a secular term for currency exchange or restoring peace. Relational theology recovered it as bilateral alignment, not legal pacification of an angry deity.
Katallage (καταλλαγή) is the restoration of harmony and the alignment of relationships, free from legal pacification of an angry God.
🔬 Exchange and Alignment
The Secular Exchange: In secular Greek, katallage was used for exchanging money (balancing values) or reconciling warring parties. It is the act of putting things back in alignment.
Completed Reconciliation: Paul states that God has already reconciled (katallasso) the world to Himself, not counting their sins (*2 Corinthians 5:19*). It is an accomplished exchange, not a transaction to negotiate.
Perspective Conceptuelle
Symbolic Visualization: Two gold chains transforming into a bridge of light linking two cliffs.
