Eirēnē (εἰρήνη) translates the Hebrew shalom — not the absence of conflict but the state of completeness, restored integrity, and reconciled relationships. In Ephesians 2:14, Christ himself 'is our peace' — not a peace he brings but a peace he is. Eirēnē designates cosmic reconciliation: between God and humanity, between Jews and Gentiles, between visible and invisible dimensions.
Eirēnē (εἰρήνη) is one of the most misunderstood biblical terms. Translated 'peace', it evokes in the West the absence of war or inner calm. But in its original Hebrew-Greek sense, eirēnē is a restored totality — the recovered integrity of a whole that had been fragmented.
