Dokos (The Beam / Plank)
EN — Transliteration: Dokós
Dokos (δοκός) designates a massive beam, a large structural piece of wood used to support the roof of a building. Jesus uses it in an ironical parable to illustrate the immense moral and spiritual blind spot of one who judges others.
Dokos represents the major obstruction of spiritual vision caused by pride and a judging spirit. It is the blind spot that prevents us from seeing clearly.
📐 The Irony of Carpentry
Jesus uses a comical hyperbole: a man tries to remove a tiny speck in his brother's eye while a whole roof beam projects from his own socket. The beam symbolises our pretension to evaluate others, which makes us spiritually blind.
Perspective Conceptuelle
Symbolic Visualization: A heavy structural wooden beam emerging from dark mist, bright gold light filtering through its splits.
