Thanatos (Cessation of Life / Transitional Sleep)

EN — Transliteration: Thánatos

Signifies physical death, the end of biological motion. In the New Testament, Thanatos is depicted as a defeated enemy whose keys belong to Christ.

📖 Réf. : Mt 4:16 | Mt 10:21 | Mt 26:38 | Jn 5:24 | Jn 8:51-52 | Rom 5:12 | Rom 5:17 | Rom 6:23 | 1 Cor 15:26 | 1 Cor 15:54-55 | Rev 1:18 | Rev 20:13-14 | Rev 21:4

Thanatos (θάνατος) is the clinical reality of physical death. Yet the theology of grace turns it into a defeated enemy, a simple gateway of sleep toward final restoration.

🔬 The Theological Mutation of Death

The abolished enemy: In the biblical text, death is not man's eternal destiny, but an intruder. It is called the 'last enemy' (eschatos echthros) to be destroyed, emptying tombs of all legal authority.

The broken sting: Paul asks: 'O death, where is your sting?' Since the sting is the Law (which condemns), unconditional grace strips Thanatos of its retributive power.
