Kairos (The Right Moment / The Opportune Hour)

EN — Transliteration: Kairós

Kairos is not time flowing past (chronos) but time ripening toward decision — the decisive moment, the unique occasion, the hour charged with meaning. Translated indiscriminately as 'time', its richness dissolves into neutral, quantitative temporality.

📖 Réf. : Mk 1:15 | Lk 4:13 | Jn 7:6 | Rom 5:6 | Gal 4:4 | Eph 5:16 | Rev 1:3

The Greeks distinguished two radically different times: Chronos (χρόνος) — chronological, quantitative time, flowing uniformly — and Kairos (καιρός) — qualitative, laden time, the moment that "ripens" and demands decision.

📖 Kairos in the New Testament

Mark 1:15: "The kairos is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand." Not "time passes" but "the moment has ripened" — like a mature fruit. A qualitative urgency, not chronological.

Galatians 4:4: "When the fullness of kairos came..." The incarnation is not a historical accident but the maturation point of a process — the exact hour when all things converge.

Ephesians 5:16: "Redeem the kairos" — literally "buy back the occasion." Not time management but alertness of soul to recognize decisive moments.
